What Christians Believed Before the Rapture Existed

For 1,800 years, Christians believed they would suffer. They expected persecution, tribulation, and death and they expected to be HERE for it. Not raptured out. Not evacuated before it got hard. They prepared to endure, not to escape. Then in the 1830s, one man changed the story. And within two generations, millions of Christians believed the opposite that God would remove them before the suffering began. This video is not a repeat of our Rapture video. That one traced WHERE the doctrine came from. This one traces what it REPLACED the original Christian hope that sustained martyrs, monks, and ordinary believers for eighteen centuries. From the catacombs to the Desert Fathers. From Polycarp's execution to Chrysostom's exile. From the Creed to the Liturgy. The ancient Church had a theology of suffering so robust that it didn't need an escape plan. And that theology is still alive in the Orthodox Church today.
