Florida is one of the best places in the world for wildlife photography, and you don’t need to hike deep into the backcountry to get incredible shots.
In this video, I share three easy-to-access wildlife photography locations in Florida, perfect for beginners, professionals, and visiting photographers from out of state or abroad. These locations offer boardwalks, maintained trails, and nearby parking, making them ideal for photographers who want reliable wildlife encounters without complicated logistics.
You’ll see a variety of species including wading birds, shorebirds, raptors, burrowing owls, painted buntings, warblers, and alligators, along with tips on when to visit, what lenses work best, and how to photograph wildlife ethically. All of these locations offer convenient parking, boardwalks, or maintained trails, making them ideal whether you’re local, traveling from out of state, or visiting from abroad.
If you’re planning a photography trip to Florida or want to expand your wildlife portfolio, this video will help you know exactly where to go.
All of the wildlife in this video was photographed using the Canon R5 Mark II, paired with the Canon RF 100–500mm and Canon RF 200–800mm lenses. This setup gave me the flexibility to handle everything from closer wading birds to more skittish subjects like burrowing owls and birds of prey, without needing to move in too close. The R5 Mark II’s autofocus and subject tracking made it much easier to stay locked onto fast-moving birds, while the extra reach of the 200–800mm was especially helpful at larger, open locations like Myakka. Having both lenses meant I could adapt quickly to different situations while still photographing wildlife ethically and from a safe distance.
