Did you know that Mercury is not the hottest planet in the solar system as a lot of people think? That is exactly what we are coming here through this video to inform you with. A lot of people think that Mercury is the hottest planet in the solar system because it is actually the closest to the sun, but that is not the case, because Venus which is the second planet from the sun has a temperature maintained at 462 degrees Celsius and thus it is the hottest planet in the solar system.

Now you might be asking yourself why would Venus be hotter than Mercury even though it is not close to the sun as Mercury is. Venus has an atmosphere that is made of carbon dioxide and it also has clouds of acid inside the atmosphere, this thick atmosphere makes the surface of Venus hotter than Mercury and hotter than all the other planets which are found in our solar system because the heat does not escape back into space; this process is called "Greenhouse Effect".

The greenhouse effect is the never ending cycle of heat being trapped inside due to the rising carbon dioxide levels which happens when the atmosphere absorbs too much carbon dioxide and thus the heat find nowhere to go. This heat usually affects the whole planet that it even reaches deep into the core.

Mercury on the other hand, which people think always that it is the hottest for its distance from the sun, doesn't have any atmosphere that can hold and trap heat and thus any heat that the planet receives from the sun is lost back into space.

Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system and this thick layer of carbon dioxide that is covering it has been the reason for making it difficult to be viewed even though it is actually the size of Earth.

There is an interesting fact which our kids found different while they were knowing more about Venus and trying to discover the reason behind being the hottest planet. This interesting fact is about those several trials from the field missions to succeed in landing on Venus, but in 1981, the Venera 13 Mission made it through the hot layers of the atmosphere and landed on the surface and not just that, but it also managed to keep from burning up for 127 minutes and sent color pictures back to the surface of Venus but then this transmission stopped because the Venera 13 melted at last.
