NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte on Thursday urged the alliance to stop relying too heavily on the United States as they are planning to announce an update to the alliance’s global force model.

According to Associated Press speaking after observing a training exercise in Revinge, Rutte said that "this over-reliance has to stop."

"It's right that we rebalance this, for the US also to be able to pivot more towards other theaters, being conscious of the fact that when it comes to the defense of the US mainland, also the European part of NATO is crucial," he added.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, also at the news conference, said that Sweden should "help the Ukrainians as much as we can to direct, to help them direct their attacks in the right directions."

Sweden has supported "Ukraine’s efforts to achieve a fair and sustainable peace based on international law and the UN Charter" since 2022, according to its government press release.
