Iran’s top diplomat on Monday reiterated the key Strait of Hormuz is only cut off for vessels of the United States, Israel and their allies. “From our perspective it is open,” Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said of the strait.
“It is only closed to our enemies, to those who carried out unjust aggression against our country and to their allies.”
According to Associated Press he said Iran did not request a ceasefire, adding that the war "must come to an end in a way that it will not happen again." “We are engaged in a proud resistance, and we will continue this resistance without any hesitation,” he said in a news conference in Iran’s capital. It comes as US President Donald Trump said he demanded about seven countries send warships to keep the Strait of Hormuz open as Iranian strikes continued to rain down on Gulf countries Monday. Trump said the US is negotiating with countries heavily reliant on Middle East crude to join a coalition to police the waterway where about one-fifth the world’s traded oil normally flows, but declined to name them. The US president has also suggested he may delay the much-anticipated visit to China at the end of the month as he seeks to ramp up the pressure on Beijing to help reopen the strait and calm oil prices that have soared during the war. Since the United States and Israel attacked Iran more than two weeks ago, Tehran has regularly fired on Israel, American bases in the region, and Gulf Arab countries’ energy infrastructure with drones and missiles.
