
Shasta Daisy: A Beautiful but "Unnatural" Flower

American horticulturalist Luther Burbank created the Shasta Daisy in 1901 via hybridisation of the Oxeye Daisy with the Southern European Max Chrysanthemum (Leucanthemum maximum). This hybrid was crossed with the Portuguese Daisy (Leucanthemum lacustre), and the next generation was hybridised with the Japanese Nippon Daisy (Nipponanthemum nipponicum) to produce the Shasta Daisy.
