**Fieldwork Diaries** Mossel Bay Day 9: Recording a HUGE mega pod of bottlenose dolphins
Today we got out early to catch the best weather before the wind picked up. The hammerheads from yesterday had all moved on with the warmer water and there were no humpback dolphins (or newborn common dolphin) to be seen. However, a huge mega pod of bottlenose dolphins were sighted early on it the trip!
We're currently building species classifier software to automate species detections in our long term recordings. So these recordings are key pieces of additional data that we can collect while we are here - we've included some of the recording from this mega pod in todays diary for you to listen to.
We're over half way through our field trip here in Mossel Bay and although we have had some amazing encounters we are still waiting for our aim of recording more humpback dolphin whistles here in the bay. Stay tuned to see if we manage it over the coming days...
