Growing your bread is a rewarding experiment you can try out in your own homestead garden! Grow, Harvest, Make Flour, and Bake Bread from wheat in your homestead garden! I decided to try something new and plant wheat in my garden for the first time. I chose to use red five wheat and white Sonora, with a minimum of 500 seeds per package. I used an earthway seeder to plant the seeds in mid-May, and within a week, the wheat began to sprout. In just two and a half weeks, the green had covered the entire plot. After three months, I harvested the spring wheat, which yielded almost 19 pounds of grain, a satisfying result. I used a mill to create the flour and made different types of bread, including sourdough. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and will be harvesting winter wheat in a few months.
