In this video you will learn how to use the Pythagorean Theorem in order to find the area of a right triangle.

Draw this up here. We have A , which is 5, B is 12, and C is our unknown. This is a forward Pythagorean Theorem problem. We will take A squared + B squared = c squared. (A^2 + B^2 =C^2)
You get 25 + 44 = c^2
These add together and you get 169 = c^2
Take the square root of both sides. Remember when you take the square root you get two answers a positive and a negative. We know with length we will only use the positive value.  The square root of 169 = 13 so c will equal 13. The hypotenuse will be 13. We have 5,12, and 13 which is a common triple so put that in your memory. We also need to find the area. 
The area formula equals 1/2 base times the height. 
The nice thing about a right triangle is that the base and the height are the legs. In this case the base is five and our height is 12. 1/2 of 5 x 12 = 60

1/2 of 60 is 30. The area of this right triangle is 30 squared units. 
Again 30 units ^2 is the answer of the area using the Pythagorean Theorem.
