What is Active Defense Cybersecurity Training

In this video, Erik Choron explains what active defense means in a cybersecurity model. You’ll learn the three different elements of an active defense strategy and why each of those elements is important to the cybersecurity threat model.

A good cybersecurity threat model includes active defense. As the name implies, active defense in the IT world is the notion of securing an information system with active strategies instead of a passive strategy. There are three primary elements to an active defense strategy; distract, divert, delay.

One example of an active strategy is a honey pot. Honey pots are used to confuse an attacker. Honey pots lure attackers into specific parts of the network under the guise that they are obtaining valuable information. What attackers don’t realize is that the honey pot is actively alerting IT administrators that there is an intruder in their network while the attackers waste time fumbling around with that honey pot.
