countryside slow living mini vlog || October lavender & roses || homemade rose water

Hello everyone,
Here, October means springtime and the month when the roses give their first flush of the season. It is a sheer delight for the soul. It is also the month of quite a few birthdays. We have not had our desired rain for the spring season yet and on top of that we have had quite some high day temperatures already. My garden and our pastures are panting for those much needed showers. There are also a lot to do in the garden this time of the year.

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary by taking a little road trip. I will be showing some of the beautiful roses and lavender we saw when visiting Ludwig’s Roses Outeniqua.

Lastly I will be sharing how I made rose water for the first time.

Time Stamps:
0:00 - intro
0:01 - October on the farm
2:05 - lavender & roses from the road trip
3:02 - making rose & lavender water

Making rose water (I added lavender as well) using the distillation method:
1. Rinse your petals to remove dirt and bugs
2. You need a pot large enough for you to put your smaller glass or enamel bowl into it.
3. Place bowl in the centre of pot on a little stand of some sort. Place the petals around the bowl.
4. Cover the rose petals with distilled water. The water should not come to the top of the bowl.
5. Put the lid (upside down on the pot - this will allow the condensation forming, hhto move to the middle of the lid and drop down into your bowl). If you use a glass lid, you will be able to see this process in action.
6. Place your ice cubes or bag of ice on top of lid. This aids the forming of the condensation drops.
7. Use a low heat setting.
8. After about 25 minutes or so, there should be a sufficient amount of distilled rose water in your bowl. Depending on the amount of rose petals you used, but when your petals have lost their color, you can stop distilling.
9. Strain into a bottle and refrigerate.

*****📌I’m no expert. I give my opinion based upon my own experience and on what I learn from others. You should be very careful when using herbs and I advise you to always do some research on how they interact with conventional chronic medications and what their side effects are.

“Therefore don’t be afraid, you are of more value than many sparrows.”
Matthew 10:31 (World English Bible)

“Time is never wasted when you use it to create a better environment for your family and for others. Home is a place where busyness is proper, called for, and desperately needed. Don’t neglect to busy yourself with your homemaking.” —Elizabeth George

As always, thank you for watching. May you dwell in peace and safety.

“As the years pass, I am coming more and more to understand that it is the common, everyday blessings of our common everyday lives for which we should be particularly grateful. They are the things that fill our lives with comfort and our hearts with gladness -- just the pure air to breathe and the strength to breath it; just warmth and shelter and home folks; just plain food that gives us strength; the bright sunshine on a cold day; and a cool breeze when the day is warm.”
