Uvalde Families Sue Meta and ‘Call of Duty’ Manufacturer on 2nd Anniversary of Shooting

AUSTIN, Texas (NEWSnet/AP) — Families in Uvalde took additional legal action Friday, suing Meta Platforms and the maker of “Call of Duty,” claiming the companies bear responsibility for products used by the gunman in the Robb Elementary School shooting.

They also filed a lawsuit against Daniel Defense, which manufactured the AR-style rifle used in the May 24, 2022, shooting, in which 19 students and two teachers were killed.

The lawsuit against Meta, which owns Instagram, and Activision Blizzard, maker of “Call of Duty,” were filed in California.

According to the lawsuits, the shooter had played "Call of Duty" since he was 15, including one that allowed him to practice with a version of the rifle he used at the school.

The shooter opened an online account with Daniel Defense before his 18th birthday and purchased the rifle as soon as he could, according to the lawsuit.

Earlier this week, some of the families filed a lawsuit against state police officers who were part of the law enforcement response.

Community members have planned several events to remember those killed, including a vigil, bell-ringing and butterfly release.
