During the Hamas attack on October 7, a group of Israeli women serving as commanders in the Israel Defense Forces’ armored corps played a crucial role in saving two communities near Gaza, a story recently aired on Israeli television.
In Yated, an agricultural community near the Egyptian and Gaza borders, the quick response of a vigilant female tank commander from a nearby base spared the area from severe damage.

Local farmer Shai Avraham confirmed that she targeted and eliminated most of the lurking Hamas terrorists, forcing the rest to retreat to Gaza and preventing further harm to the community.
Despite initial skepticism on social media, Israel’s Channel 12 reported the incident, affirming the crucial role played by female officers in combat situations.
While traditionally serving in instructional or logistical capacities, an increasing number of women are now accepted into combat units like infantry, armored corps, and aviation roles within the IDF.
Notably, women are actively engaged in combat roles inside Gaza as part of mixed male-female units during the ongoing conflict.
