DoorDash Warns Customers Their Orders May Result in Longer Wait if They Don't Tip

(NEWSnet)  — Customers ordering from the popular online delivery service DoorDash may want to think twice before skipping the tip.

Through a pilot program, the delivery giant is letting customers know their orders may take longer to arrive if customers choose not to tip.

A new alert reads: “Orders with no tip might take longer to get delivered — are you sure you want to continue?”

DoorDash clarified that its drivers have the freedom to select which orders they wish to accept and can view whether a tip is included before taking on an order. As a result, if no tip is left, there's a possibility that it might take more time for a driver to pick up the order.

"While the vast majority of customers do leave a tip, offers that don’t include a tip can be seen as less desirable -- this impacts our entire community, leading to longer wait times for customers, orders sitting longer at merchants, and less value for Dashers," the company said in a statement.

DoorDash pays its “dashers” between $2 and $10 per delivery — depending on the distance traveled to make a delivery.

In addition, they get to keep 100% of all tips, according to the company.

The company said that customers could tip in cash, but they, too, would have to wait longer for their food.
