Andrew Heaney Shines as Rangers Shut Out Marlins

Andrew Heaney fanned seven batters across six scoreless innings, leading the Texas Rangers to a 6-0 victory over the host Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon, clinching the rubber match of a three-game series.

Heaney (2-6) allowed just four hits and didn’t issue a walk as Texas shut out Miami for the second consecutive day.

Jacob Latz navigated around two singles in the seventh inning, while David Robertson struck out Dane Myers and induced a double play to escape the eighth. Grant Anderson then struck out two in a flawless ninth inning.

Adolis Garcia went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs for the Rangers, who secured their fifth win in their last six games. Josh Smith also contributed with two hits.

All seven of the Marlins’ hits were singles.

The Rangers wasted no time in capitalizing on Marlins starter Trevor Rogers, scoring three runs in the first inning.

Robbie Grossman and Garcia led the early charge with consecutive RBI singles, and Jonah Heim extended the lead to 3-0 by grounding into a double play that brought home Grossman.

Garcia then blasted a solo homer in the top of the sixth to extend the Texas lead to 4-0, marking Garcia’s 13th homer of the season.

Apart from Garcia’s home run, Rogers (1-7) settled in after the rocky first inning, surrendering four runs and six hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out three.

Miami went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position and left five on base. The Marlins had runners on first and second against Latz in the seventh inning following singles by Jesus Sanchez and Emmanuel Rivera, but Otto Lopez struck out and Tim Anderson grounded out to end the threat.

With the game virtually secured, Texas added two more runs in the ninth inning courtesy of Leody Taveras’ RBI single and Travis Jankowski’s run-scoring groundout.
