2 Killed in Shooting at Memphis Park Party

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (NEWSnet/AP) — Eight people were shot, two of them killed, at an unsanctioned public party late Saturday in a Memphis city park, police said.

Officers responded at 7:19 p.m. to a reported shooting, Memphis Police Department Chief Cerelyn Davis said. Two men were pronounced dead at the scene, Davis said.

The six survivors were taken to area hospitals. One was in critical condition at Regional One Health in Memphis, police said.

The shooting occurred at a block party in Orange Mound Park. Davis said 200 to 300 were in attendance. No city permit had been issued for the gathering, Davis said.

At least two people are believed to have fired weapons during the shooting and police are examining video footage as investigation continues. There were no immediate arrests.
