For 10 years, Jocelyn Galvez, 27, and her fiancé, Nick Jahn, 32, dreamed about starting a family. This year, that dream came true in the most unexpected — and extraordinary — way.
At Jocelyn’s first prenatal appointment in January, the couple sat side by side, excited to hear the steady rhythm of their baby’s heartbeat. Instead, they heard something else: three heartbeats.

“We found out that there was not just one heartbeat — there were three heartbeats,” Jocelyn told People. “To find out we’re having multiples was very shocking.”
A Once-in-a-Million Gift
A month later, doctors confirmed the couple was expecting identical triplet girls — a medical rarity so extraordinary that their physician, Dr. Ilina D. Pluym of UCLA Health, had to put it into perspective.
“The studies are anywhere from 1 in 100,000 to 1 in 1 million,” Dr. Pluym explained to People. “To put that into perspective, there’s about a 1 in 10,000 chance of having triplets in general, which is already pretty rare.”

For Jocelyn and Nick, the joy of their news was mixed with uncertainty. Because all three babies shared one placenta, the pregnancy was high-risk.
“You really kind of worry about the unequal distribution of nutrients, that all three of them are fighting over the same blood supply,” Dr. Pluym said.
Nick remembered how overwhelming those early months felt.
“They would tell us all these percentages of how this could not work and the problems that may lie ahead,” he told People. “And so we didn’t really tell anybody for the first four or five months because we were being told by the doctors to just be very cautious.”
A Powerful Delivery
Despite the risks, Jocelyn stayed healthy throughout her pregnancy. On June 25, at 33 weeks, she delivered three tiny but strong daughters — Sienna, Rose, and Lily — by cesarean section.
“They were all one after another, and they came out kicking and screaming,” Nick said of the girls, who arrived about 45 seconds apart, each weighing roughly three pounds. The delivery room was filled with 21 medical professionals, each ready to care for the babies.

Jocelyn remembers the awe of watching such precision and teamwork: “Each baby had three people dedicated to each baby, had its own team. As much as it was chaos for me, it wasn’t chaos for them. They knew exactly what they were doing. Everyone was ready and prepared.”
First Glimpses of Love
The newborns were whisked to the NICU before Jocelyn could hold them.
“It wasn’t like a normal delivery where you got to see or kiss or touch your baby at all,” she shared. “Thankfully the babies were healthy. They were just premature.”
Hours later, nurses gently rolled Jocelyn into the NICU. For 10 precious minutes, she was able to see her daughters for the first time.
“They made sure that I got to meet the babies,” she said. “It was very sweet.”
Nick still remembers the wait before they could hold them: “Still, they weren’t actually able to hold them for a few days.”
Life at Home
Over the next month, the girls came home one by one — Sienna after 21 days, Lily after 24, and Rose after 30. Suddenly, the couple’s quiet home was transformed into a lively, love-filled space.
“There’s only two of us, so somebody’s got to be here to help,” Nick admitted. “Because if they’re all three crying, it gets a little wild. You can’t feed all three of them at the same time. The challenging thing is just having enough hands and enough time to do everything — and not sleeping.”
Even in the chaos, joy shines through. The parents are already learning to tell their girls apart.
“Sienna’s really tiny,” Nick explained. “And then Rose is our biggest baby. Lily is the medium size. The way they cry, the way they scream, you can kind of tell by that.”
A Grateful Heart
Looking back, Jocelyn is filled with gratitude — especially for the doctors and nurses who guided her through every step.
“We’re just so grateful for the UCLA team because if it weren’t for them, we would not have our daughters,” she told People. “They kept their babies alive.”
Nick echoed that feeling, adding, “Family is everything right now… we’ve more than made up for the 10 years that we didn’t have kids.”
What began as an ordinary doctor’s visit has become a story of resilience, love, and the rarest of blessings — three daughters, identical in looks, but each carrying her own spark of life.
