Farmer Secretly Plants 13-Acre Corn Maze to Propose to Girlfriend — Here’s How She Reacted

When Caroline Liggett looked down from the small plane circling over Grove City, Ohio, she wasn’t expecting to see her life change forever. But etched into the rows of towering green stalks below, the words appeared as if the earth itself had whispered them into being:

“WILL YOU MARRY ME, CAROLINE?”

The 13-acre corn maze, complete with giant pumpkins and sunflowers carved into the design, was planted by her boyfriend, farmer Tim Sullivan, who spent months carefully crafting the ultimate surprise. Circle S Farms unveiled the design on Facebook, calling it a one-of-a-kind 2025 maze planted by their very own farmer Tim — and shared the happiest ending: Caroline said yes.

A Proposal Written in Corn

“I wanted to do something big, something she’d never forget,” Sullivan told ABC6. “Seeing her face when she realized what it said — I’ll never forget that moment.”

The grand gesture wasn’t just about love; it was about ingenuity. Using a computerized tractor, Sullivan and his team planted the design back in June. By late summer, the maze’s secret was visible from the sky — but he kept his nerves in check, praying no one else would accidentally spot it and ruin the surprise.

To make sure Caroline saw it first, Sullivan carried the engagement ring in his pocket and convinced her to take a flight over the farmland by pretending to be “interested in flying.” On their first pass, she missed the message. But the second time around, her eyes caught it — and her heart answered without hesitation.

A Gesture Beyond Expectation

“I was just like so amazed that somebody put that much effort and planning into a proposal like that,” Caroline told The Columbus Dispatch. “I expected he would do something quite elaborate and intentional, but nothing to that extreme by any means.”

For the couple, the setting couldn’t have been more fitting. Sullivan works for Corteva Agriscience, while Caroline works for WinField United — competing agricultural companies. As Caroline put it: “It was only fitting that our proposal would happen with the cornfield.”

Love Goes Viral: The Facebook Reaction

The post didn’t just celebrate the couple’s engagement; it lit up social media. Circle S Farms’ reveal went viral with 1,400 likes and 172 shares, as the community joined in the celebration. In the comments, joy and humor sprouted alongside admiration for the farmer’s creativity:

“Creative. If he left the name off of it, he could be selling proposal spots. Ha ha.”

“Such a unique & cute proposal! Congratulations, Timothy & Caroline!”

“Hope she didn’t think the proposal was too ‘corny’!😎🤓 Congratulations!❤️”

What’s Next

For Sullivan and Liggett, the journey is only beginning. The couple is set to marry in early summer 2026 — proving that sometimes, love doesn’t just grow in the heart. It can take root in the soil too.
