CHESTER – Town of Chester Highway Superintendent John Reilly was arrested on Saturday night for allegedly shooting a DoorDash driver at his home.
According to law enforcement sources, the DoorDash driver was attempting to find an address in the Town of Chester when he arrived at Reilly’s residence on Valerie Drive at about 9 p.m. on Friday. After a brief conversation, Reilly allegedly shot the victim. Reilly turned himself in to the State Police and was charged with assault to cause serious injury with a weapon, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a firearm, all felonies.
Reilly has been transferred to Orange County Jail on $250,000 cash bail/$500,000 bond. The victim was hospitalized with serious injuries and has undergone at least one surgery. Reilly was appointed as Chester’s Highway Superintendent in March of 2021.
Reilly’s attorney, Amir H. Sadaghiani, said that his client “fully cooperated with members of the New York State Police in its investigation.” Sadaghiani declined further comment. Reilly, 48, has entered a plea of not guilty.
Town of Chester Supervisor Brandon Holdridge did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment for this story.
