In a playful yet attention-grabbing twist to the 2024 U.S. presidential race, a three-month-old pygmy hippo named Moo Deng in Thailand has “predicted” that Donald J. Trump will defeat Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.
The young hippo’s choice has delighted Trump supporters and generated viral excitement across social media, with many interpreting Moo Deng’s pick as a sign of Trump’s destined return to the White House.
The prediction took place at Thailand’s Khao Kheow Open Zoo, where the baby hippo, whose name means “Bouncy Pig,” was presented with two displays of melon, one labeled for Trump and the other for Harris.
Emerging eagerly from the water, Moo Deng made a swift decision and opted to munch on the melon marked with Trump’s name.
To add to the intrigue, an older hippo approached the Harris melon display, creating a moment that social media users were quick to seize upon.
For Trump’s supporters online, Moo Deng’s snack choice has been embraced as a good omen. One supporter tweeted, “Pack it up, ladies and gentlemen.
It has been decided!” Another joked that the baby hippo may become “the most accurate pollster of 2024,” showing confidence in the animal’s whimsical endorsement.
This lighthearted moment comes as part of a broader trend of animals making headlines around Trump’s campaign.
Recently, Trump supporters mourned the unexpected death of Peanut the Squirrel, whose owner in New York claimed authorities seized the animal and later euthanized it.
Peanut has since become a symbol among Trump backers on social media, spawning memes that protest what some feel was undue government intervention by the Democratic-led state.
Meanwhile, another animal incident has drawn further intrigue among Trump supporters. Over the weekend, Washington, D.C.’s Smithsonian National Zoo announced the euthanization of Kamala, an elderly elephant suffering from osteoarthritis.
For some Republicans, the elephant’s demise symbolized an ominous turn for Vice President Kamala Harris, especially as elephants are often symbolic of the GOP.
Moo Deng’s “prediction” may be far from a scientific poll, but in a contentious election season, even a baby hippo’s snack-time decision has sparked lively debate and playful superstition.
While Trump and Harris continue their serious campaigns, animal “prophets” like Moo Deng have added a whimsical layer to the political landscape, capturing the imagination of voters around the world.
