Several years ago, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake made a significant lifestyle change by moving to Montana. The actress recently shared their reasons for leaving the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles and New York to raise their children, Silas, 9, and Phineas, 4, in a more secluded environment.
Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake chose to leave the spotlight of Hollywood behind. Although the 7th Heaven alum and the “Suit & Tie” singer previously maintained homes in Los Angeles and New York, they decided to relocate to Big Sky, Montana. They purchased the property in 2015 and have been living there with their sons for the past few years.
One major benefit of their move is the lack of paparazzi intrusion. “You get hammered on the East Coast, you kinda get hammered on the West Coast,” Biel explained on the May 21 episode of Kelly Ripa’s podcast Let’s Talk Off Camera. “That’s why we don’t really live there anymore.”
Biel emphasized that their primary goal is to create a normal upbringing for their children. “It’s just trying to create some normalcy for these kids,” she said. “We wanna share our family with our loved ones and friends.” The couple recognizes that while their careers are public, their children did not choose to be in the spotlight. “I don’t wanna expose them in a way until they have an ability to make that decision for themselves,” Biel added.
The couple’s real estate decisions reflect their commitment to privacy. In addition to their Montana property, they purchased over 125 acres of land near Nashville, Tennessee, in 2015. They listed this property for sale in 2023 for $10 million, having originally bought it for $4 million. They have also sold their New York City penthouse for $29 million and their Los Angeles mansion, which was listed for $35 million before being taken off the market.
In addition to their physical move, Biel and Timberlake have been careful about their children’s digital presence. They do not share photos of their sons’ faces on social media. Biel acknowledged that the “social media world” will eventually be a significant part of their children’s lives but prefers to keep them out of the public eye for now. “I just don’t want it to be on my account,” she said. “So we try to engage in a way that feels authentic but also just not blasting them all over the place. And no disrespect to anybody who feels comfortable doing that. That’s just our family choice. Maybe it’s a mistake, maybe it’s not.”
By prioritizing their children’s privacy and normalcy, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake aim to provide a grounded and balanced upbringing away from the constant scrutiny of the public eye.
