On August 25 - 27, 2023, the vibrant city of Toronto will once again come alive with the spirit of Taiwan as it hosts the highly anticipated Toronto TAIWANfest. This annual celebration has become a hallmark event in Canada, bringing together Taiwanese communities and culture enthusiasts from all walks of life. With its diverse array of performances, exhibitions, workshops, and culinary delights, the 2023 Toronto TAIWANfest promises to be a true celebration of Taiwanese culture and heritage.

The year 2023 promises to be a momentous one for Taiwanfest, as it gears up to host an electrifying nighttime party with electronic music taking center stage. This eagerly anticipated event will feature the immensely talented Taiwanese indigenous electronic music DJ, Dungi Sapor, as the headlining act, alongside the prestigious National Chinese Orchestra. Set to be a spectacular celebration of music, culture, and creativity, the festival will be a dual-city extravaganza simultaneously taking place in Toronto and Vancouver.

Traditional East Asian instrumental music, with its rich and timeless heritage, will take on a new flavor, as the Taiwan Chinese Orchestra presents "Radiant Taiwan," an opportunity to witness a different facet of traditional music. The folk music concert, "Returning Home," features three female musicians from Taiwan, South Korea, and China, showcasing a blend of tradition, modernity, innovation, and inheritance in the Canadian music landscape.

Explore the uncharted territories of history and culture as the festival hosts a series of lectures discussing the societal significance of traditional customs. Dr. Chung Shu-min, Vice Director and Research Fellow at the Institute of Taiwan History, Academia Sinica, will deliver a lecture titled "Layered Taiwan History," which might leave you astonished.

Former Director of the National Palace Museum, Lin Cheng-yi, will present "A New Perspective on Palace Museum Culture: Transnational Sharing and Innovation," delving into how the National Palace Museum in Taiwan has garnered local recognition and connected with the younger generation.

The highlight of the electronic music party will be a lecture by indigenous DJ Runi, titled "No One is an Outsider," where she shares her journey of embracing electronic music to preserve and pass down indigenous traditional culture, inspired by a trip to New Zealand.
