NASA's Artemis II, the first crewed mission of the Artemis program, launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida to the moon on April 1.

The mission sent NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen on an approximately 10‑day journey around the moon.

On Day 3, according to NASA, the first of three smaller engine firings, called the outbound trajectory correction, will occur, ensuring Orion stays on target for its path around the moon. The burn in the morning was scheduled to begin shortly after the crew’s midday meal.

The crew will conduct a variety of checkouts and demonstrations. Glover, Koch, and Hansen will demonstrate CPR procedures in space. Wiseman and Glover will check out some of Orion’s medical kit, including the thermometer, blood pressure monitor, stethoscope, and otoscope.

Koch will test Orion’s emergency communications system on the Deep Space Network. The entire crew will then come together to rehearse the choreography for the scientific observation work they’ll do on flight day six, when Orion comes the closest to the moon.
