Federal government officials told news outlets on Wednesday that the government is poised to cancel $100 million in contracts with Harvard University. The General Services Administration will request federal agencies to identify any remaining contracts and determine whether they should be canceled or redirected. The State Department also called on U.S. embassies and consulates to pause new student visa appointments as it works to review and expand how it screens applicants, including inspection of social media accounts.

The Trump administration is asking the Supreme Court to lift a court order that limits how and where it can deport illegal immigrants. The Justice Department says the ruling forces the Department of Homeland Security to follow complex procedures, slowing down removals, including of those with criminal convictions. Meanwhile, Customs and Border Protection data show that illegal border crossings have dropped sharply, with some detention centers closing. The administration credits its tougher policies for these gains.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) says it has saved taxpayers roughly $175 billion by terminating more than 25,000 federal contracts, grants, and leases. The largest savings came from the Department of Health and Human Services, the General Services Administration, the Education Department, the Office of Personnel Management, and the Department of Labor. Elon Musk has stepped back from his involvement with DOGE to focus on his companies as they begin rolling out key technologies.
