ASHBY — Looking for local products, useful services or simply a chance to connect with neighbors? The Ashby Free Public Library will open its doors for a new community event designed to do just that.
The library will host its inaugural Local Goods & Services Showcase from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, on June 16, at the library, 812 Main St. The free event invites residents to meet and support the local businesses, artisans, farmers and service providers that help make Ashby a close-knit and thriving community.
“Visitors can browse a variety of offerings all in one place,” said Heather Brodie Perry, Ashby Public Library director. “From locally made foods and handcrafted goods to practical services offered by area professionals. Attendees may also learn about Community Supported Agriculture programs and connect directly with local farmers.”
The showcase is designed to highlight not only established businesses but also emerging entrepreneurs. Young people are especially encouraged to participate by sharing services such as babysitting, dog walking, lawn care and other community-based offerings.
“The library has always been a gathering place for our community,” said Rose Smith, Ashby Free Public Library children’s librarian. “This showcase is a natural extension of that mission — bringing neighbors together, strengthening our local economy, and making it easier for residents to find the goods and services they need from people they know and trust.”
Participation is free for both vendors and attendees. Vendors are encouraged to bring promotional materials, products and a small table display, making the event accessible for everyone from seasoned small business owners to first-time participants.
“Our hope is that this event becomes an opportunity to strengthen local connections while helping residents discover the resources available close to home,” Perry added.
