Dozens take part in Historic Walk through Carmel

CARMEL- Dozens of people were up early Saturday to take part in Putnam’s Historic Walk Through Carmel as part of America’s 250th anniversary.

Donning fall-like attire on a chilly morning instead of spring finery, participants visited many of Carmel’s historic landmarks.

Among the participants were County Executive Kevin Byrne and his Democratic challenger in November’s general election Brett Yarris.

Byrne called it “wonderful to reconnect with old friends, former classmates, and educators— including Mrs. Decatur, who I first did the Walk Through Carmel with back in 1994 as a 4th grade student, along with Mrs. Gebhardt and Mrs. Katherine Casey.”

Byrne also provided an update on the restoration of the Sybil Ludington statue overlooking Lake Gleneida which is undergoing resurfacing in Fishkill.

Both Byrne and Yarris thanked the Reed Memorial Library Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers for bringing the tradition back to the county seat.
