Woman rescued after fall from Mohonk cliff

GARDINER – A Massachusetts woman, who fell 30 feet while climbing the Arrow Wall in Mohonk Preserve, was saved by State DEC forest rangers using a rope rescue.

The 53-year-old climber, whose name was not made public, suffered injuries to her spine and pelvis during the incident just before 4 p.m. on May 21.

The incident was at a wall with a 40-degree slope, 100 feet above the carriage road and continued down rocky steps for another 150 feet.

She was brought to safety by members of the New Paltz Rescue Squad, Gardiner Fire Department and State Police.

Once the woman was recovered and carried out, she was driven by ambulance to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie for treatment. Her condition was not immediately known.
