POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Former Marist University student Kyle Petrozzi, 23, of White Plains, pleaded guilty Friday to 15 felony counts of unlawful surveillance in Dutchess County Court after admitting to secretly installing cameras in bathrooms at Marist University’s Dyson Hall.
Petrozzi, who was expected to graduate from in May 2025 with a degree in media studies and production, was expelled during the investigation by the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office and Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
After his indictment on 16 counts, Petrozzi’s attorney, Richard Portale, said his client suffers from a sex addiction disorder, calling it a compulsive and often hidden condition, telling “This does not excuse Kyle’s conduct, but it does help explain it,” Portale said in a statement.
Judge Jessica Segal accepted Petrozzi’s plea. Sentencing is set for Sept. 16.
District Attorney Anthony Parisi stated, “The defendant’s actions represented a serious and disturbing invasion of privacy and a violation of the trust and sense of security that every person deserves, particularly in places where privacy is expected. By secretly recording individuals without their knowledge or consent, the defendant victimized multiple people and caused understandable fear and distress. This guilty plea holds the defendant accountable for his conduct and reflects our Office’s commitment to protecting victims and prosecuting crimes involving unlawful surveillance and exploitation.”
The incidents occurred between April 27 and May 10, 2025. Petrozzi admitted to installing cameras in gender-neutral bathrooms throughout Dyson Hall, filming several people without their knowledge.
