Poll workers needed in Putnam

PUTNAM COUNTY- Voting is one of our nation’s most important rights and carries a shared responsibility. Free and fair elections are the foundation of our democracy.

Putnam County needs poll workers to help protect these freedoms.

The Putnam Board of Elections reported Friday that New York is experiencing a critical shortage of poll workers, resulting in a significant need for those who are willing and able to aid with the administration of in-person voting.

Poll workers prepare polling places for voting; set up voting equipment; sign-in and process voters; show voting procedures to voters; close polling places; canvass and report the results in addition to assist voters if requested.

Poll workers earn $300 to $350 for serving on Primary Day and Election Day, plus a $25 training stipend.

County Executive Kevin Byrne encouraged interested individuals to consider becoming a poll worker: “This is a great opportunity to help your community, meet new people, and play a vital role in democracy.”

Those interested are asked to call the Board of Elections at 845-808-1300 or online at .
