SALT POINT – New York State Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado joined State Police Major Daniel Smith, Commander of , at Troop K Headquarters on Friday for the annual memorial service honoring troopers who have died in the line of duty. Following the somber remembrance, the New York State Trooper PBA announced the 10 winners of its annual scholarships.
During his opening remarks, Major Smith described the event as a “solemn and meaningful day.” Lt. Governor Delgado echoed those sentiments during his keynote address, noting the memorial pays tribute to “their selfless sacrifice that means more than words could ever do justice.” Delgado also recognized that sacrifices were made by the families of the fallen.
Seventeen members of Troop K have been killed in the line of duty, dating back to 1924, with the most recent, , succumbing to September 11-related illness on March 6, 2021. The names of all New York State Troopers killed in the line of duty are listed on the agency’s .

The day ended on a bright note with the scholarship awards. To qualify for the scholarships, students must be the children of PBA members who are active or retired, in good standing. Eligibility also requires students to be enrolled in an associate degree program if attending a two-year college, or in an undergraduate program at a four-year school. The money can be used for tuition, room, board, and books.
