POUGHKEEPSIE — Law enforcement officers, elected officials and community members gathered Thursday at the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office for the agency’s annual memorial service honoring officers who have died in the line of duty. The ceremony also paid tribute to former Sheriff’s Office members who have passed away.

Dutchess County addressed attendees, emphasizing the unique challenges faced by law enforcement officers.  “We have a unique and distinct job where we don’t know if we’re coming home at the end of our shift,” Imperati said, recalling officers who died in the line of duty. “Never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice and never forget their loved ones. Those families made a sacrifice as well.”
The event included a wreath-laying ceremony and a performance of “Taps” by Dutchess County Undersheriff Jason Mark. Representatives from multiple law enforcement agencies were present.
Imperati told that law enforcement remains a close-knit community, and he encouraged families of fallen officers to remember they are not forgotten. “I want those family members to remember they are a part of our family and we are always here for them. If you ever need us, we are only a phone call away,” he said.
