Rep. Anna Paulina Luna announced Wednesday that a congressional hearing will be held next month to examine the CIA’s MK-Ultra program, a decades-old intelligence initiative associated with experimental mind-control research.

In a post shared on X, Luna confirmed that the House Oversight Task Force will convene on May 13 to address the program. The Florida Republican did not provide further details about the format of the hearing, including potential witnesses or specific areas of inquiry.

K-Ultra, which began in the 1950s and was discontinued in the 1970s, involved a series of experiments exploring techniques for influencing human behavior. According to historical accounts, the program included research into the use of LSD and other substances for interrogation and intelligence-gathering purposes, as outlined in documentation summarized by History.com.

Luna had previously signaled interest in reopening congressional scrutiny of the program earlier this year. In a prior statement, she suggested that lawmakers revisit the issue following renewed public attention tied to newly available intelligence records.

That attention was sparked in part by a Daily Mail report detailing the addition of previously undisclosed materials related to CIA research into mind-control techniques to the agency’s public reading room in 2025.

The upcoming hearing is expected to revisit the origins and activities of MK-Ultra, which has long drawn scrutiny over ethical concerns, including the use of human subjects in experiments without their knowledge or consent.

Luna has not indicated whether the hearing will extend beyond historical review to address broader questions of intelligence oversight or potential implications of newly surfaced documents.

The May session marks a renewed congressional effort to examine Cold War intelligence programs as additional records continue to emerge decades after the program’s closure.
