Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said Wednesday that acting Attorney General Todd Blanche could be “more dangerous” than his predecessor due to what he described as stronger communication skills and greater effectiveness in presenting the department’s actions.

During an appearance on MSNBC’s “All In,” host Chris Hayes asked Schiff whether the Department of Justice had declined following the departure of former Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Schiff responded that, by certain measures, the situation has worsened. He pointed to ongoing legal efforts, stating that cases brought forward under current leadership are weaker than those pursued previously.

“These cases are just absurd,” Schiff said, adding that earlier efforts failed to secure a conviction or trial involving former FBI Director James Comey. He said more recent actions represent “a step in the wrong direction.”

Schiff also addressed uncertainty surrounding how the Justice Department may handle matters related to files connected to Jeffrey Epstein, saying it remains too early to evaluate any differences under Blanche’s leadership.

While comparing Blanche to Bondi, Schiff said both figures shared similar shortcomings but suggested Blanche’s perceived competence could amplify his impact. “He’s far more competent than Pam Bondi. He puts a better public spin on things than Pam Bondi,” Schiff said. “So, in that sense, he is, perhaps, more dangerous.”

Schiff added that such qualities could influence preferences within the administration, noting that President Donald Trump may favor Blanche for those reasons.
