Newburgh school district awarded $10 million for clean energy infrastructure

NEWBURGH – The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority has awarded the Newburgh Enlarged City School District over $10 million to modernize its energy infrastructure.

District Superintendent Dr. Jackielynn Manning Campbell said the funds will be dedicated to upgrading the energy infrastructure.

“With this $10 million, we are hoping to begin to electrify our HVAC system and eliminate fossil fuel usage,” she said. “Ultimately it will reduce total energy cost and use in the targeted buildings by 55 percent.”

The superintendent said by converting to ground-source heat pumps and advanced filtration, “we are creating a healthier, more comfortable learning environment where our scholars can thrive.”
