Mark Zuckerberg’s tech giant Meta Platforms has announced plans to eliminate approximately 8,000 jobs about 10 percent of its global workforce — as part of a sweeping effort to streamline operations while doubling down on artificial intelligence investments.
According to a report from Bloomberg, the decision was communicated to employees in an internal memo distributed Thursday. The company confirmed that the layoffs will take effect on May 20, marking one of the largest workforce reductions in Meta’s recent history.
Balancing Efficiency with AI Spending
Meta framed the cuts as part of a broader efficiency initiative designed to offset the substantial financial demands of expanding its AI capabilities.
