A member of the U.K.’s Labour Party has publicly called for Prime Minister Keir Starmer to resign, signaling growing internal dissatisfaction within the governing party.

According to a report by The Telegraph, Jonathan Brash, who represents Hartlepool, said the situation had reached a point where he no longer believes Starmer will lead Labour into the next general election.

“On Wednesday, Jonathan Brash, the MP for Hartlepool, demanded the Prime Minister’s resignation and said no MP ‘reasonably expects’ him to last until the next general election,” the report stated.

Brash elaborated on his concerns during a television appearance, saying: “I’m completely fed up about it, and I think it’s got to the point now where I genuinely think that as far as the Prime Minister is concerned it’s not a case of if – it’s when. Ultimately, we’re in a situation now where I don’t think anyone reasonably expects the Prime Minister to lead the party into the next election.”

The remarks come amid broader unease within Labour’s ranks following Starmer’s decision to dismiss senior diplomat Olly Robbins from his role at the Foreign Office. The move has drawn criticism from several figures, including former Cabinet secretaries and members of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee.

Reports indicate that concerns have been building among both ministers and backbench lawmakers over leadership decisions and internal handling of key issues. The controversy surrounding Robbins’ removal has become a focal point for that frustration, particularly after questions were raised about communication failures related to a security vetting matter involving Peter Mandelson.

The public call for resignation represents a notable escalation, as it is the first instance of a sitting Labour MP openly urging Starmer to step down while he remains in office.
