Middletown mayor says city’s progress is continuing

MIDDLETOWN – The City of Middletown experienced a banner year in 2025 and Mayor Joseph DeStefano expects its progress to continue.

The mayor outlined successes achieved last year in his annual state-of-the-city address Tuesday evening.

“We see safer streets and stronger neighborhoods. We see record investment in our infrastructure, rebuilding our sewer, our water and transportation systems, for the future,” he said. “We see a downtown that is alive with festivals, small businesses, restaurants and community events. We see economic development bringing new opportunity and new jobs, and renewed confidence in Middletown. We see a city government that is financially responsible, keeping taxes stable while delivering better services.”

DeStefano said looking ahead, the new city courthouse – to be named the Honorable State Supreme Court Justice Angelo Ingrassia Justice Center – will open in the months ahead, the O&W Station’s $44 million redevelopment for RECAP’s Head Start program is underway, and Fei Tien College’s new post-secondary educational facility – Northern University – is being developed on the Middletown Community Campus – formerly the state’s Middletown Psychiatric Center.
