Trump Demands Long-Term Security Guarantees for Iran Deal

President Trump has been vocal about his conditions for peace and stated he will not pursue an agreement that fails to provide long-term security guarantees, emphasizing the need for verifiable limits on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, regional proxy activities, and threats to shipping.

“I won’t go for a peace agreement if it cannot guarantee long-term planning,” aligns with his public comments rejecting short-term fixes or “blackmail” over the strait.

He has warned that without a deal by the ceasefire’s end, military options—including resumed strikes—remain on the table, though he has also expressed optimism that a resolution could come soon. Trump has described the conflict as “very close to being over” at times while stressing no pressure to extend the truce indefinitely.

The impasse reflects deep mistrust accumulated over decades, intensified by the recent war.

Iran accuses the U.S. of unrealistic demands and inconsistent positions, while Washington points to Tehran’s support for militant groups and nuclear advancements. Economic fallout includes elevated energy costs, strained alliances, and impacts on global trade routes.

In this situation, JD Vance’s Pakistan visit for the second round of peace talks remains uncertain.
