Republican Lawmaker Moves to Expel Cory Mills Amid Ethics Probe

By Blessing Nweke

A Republican push to expel Cory Mills from Congress has intensified after Nancy Mace introduced a resolution citing serious allegations and an ongoing ethics investigation.

Mace filed the measure Monday, accusing Mills of conduct that includes alleged sexual misconduct and possible campaign finance violations. The House Ethics Committee is already investigating claims involving “sexual misconduct and/or dating violence.” Mills has strongly denied all allegations.

“The swamp has protected Cory Mills for far too long,” Mace said, adding that previous efforts to censure him and strip committee assignments had failed due to opposition from both parties.

Mills responded defiantly on social media, urging Mace to bring the resolution to a vote. “Nancy thinks allegations and accusations is due process,” he wrote, maintaining his innocence.

House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed reservations about the move, emphasizing the importance of due process. “We have a process here,” Johnson said, noting that the Ethics Committee should be allowed to complete its work before any expulsion effort proceeds.

The development comes amid broader scrutiny of lawmakers’ conduct. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick is also facing potential sanctions after a bipartisan panel found multiple violations tied to alleged misuse of federal relief funds—claims she denies.

Mills has faced legal issues in recent years, including a 2025 police investigation into an alleged assault in Washington, D.C., which did not result in charges. A Florida judge also issued a restraining order against him last year related to accusations by an ex-girlfriend.

While expulsion from Congress is rare and requires a two-thirds majority vote, the resolution signals growing tensions within Republican ranks as ethics concerns continue to mount on Capitol Hill.
