Poughkeepsie park murder victim identified
POUGHKEEPSIE — Police have identified the man fatally shot near Stitzel Field in Poughkeepsie on Sunday evening as Carl Chambers, 46, of Marlboro.

Authorities said Chambers was among dozens attending a soccer match at the park around 6:40 p.m. when gunfire erupted. He was taken to Vassar Brothers Medical Center in a private vehicle before officers arrived and was later pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

A second victim, a 31-year-old man, was admitted to MidHudson Regional Hospital later Sunday with a gunshot wound to his leg. Police believe he was shot at the park during the same incident, according to authorities.

City of Poughkeepsie Police Chief Rich Wilson said witnesses reported that multiple people exchanged gunfire on the east side of Lincoln Avenue, near the baseball field, when the victims were struck.

Investigators believe at least three different firearms, including a high-powered rifle, were used during the shooting.

Wilson said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department’s confidential tip line at 845-451-7577.
