Jack Black appears to be on a winning streak, particularly when it comes to films adapted from video games. Staying true to that momentum, Black has expressed his willingness and eagerness to take on more such projects, with his sights set on Duck Hunt should it ever be adapted for the big screen. He’s not alone in his enthusiasm—Super Mario Bros. co-star Donald Glover has also expressed interest in joining the potential project.
A Career Built on Laughter and Talent
Jack Black has been entertaining audiences for years with his signature brand of slapstick comedy—equal parts goofball, equal parts charm—all underscored by remarkable musical talent. His passion for the arts emerged during his teenage years. According to Britannica, Black caught the acting bug after appearing in his first commercial at the age of 14. By 1987, his career was gaining traction, though stardom had not yet arrived. As Britannica notes,
“In 1987 he joined the Actors’ Gang, a performance troupe founded by actor-director Tim Robbins, through which he met performers Kyle Gass and John Cusack, with whom he would later collaborate.”

It took over a decade before Black’s true breakthrough arrived with a role in the 2000 film High Fidelity. As Britannica states,
“After his performance in High Fidelity, Black rose to megastardom with the 2003 School of Rock.”
It became clear that his combination of comedic timing and powerhouse vocals was his winning formula. Black went on to take on a variety of projects, many of which included animated features such as Kung Fu Panda, Ice Age, and Shark Tale. More recently, he has turned his attention to video game adaptations, with notable appearances in A Minecraft Movie and two films in the Super Mario Bros. franchise. It seems Black has no intention of slowing down. Instead, he’s pressing forward at full speed—and “Duck Hunt” is on his bucket list.
A Nintendo Classic Ripe for Adaptation
Those familiar with the Nintendo Entertainment System know that two of the company’s most popular games during its early years were Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt. According to Nintendo’s official website,
“Originally released as a launch title for the NES, Duck Hunt will really test your reflexes. Ready, aim…pow! If the ducks go down, you win. If the shots go wide, you’ll suffer your hunting dog’s sniggering!”
The game was straightforward in its concept, and given its limited thematic material and simple gameplay, one might wonder how far the IP could be creatively expanded into a feature film. Should it happen, Black has made it clear that he has his eyes on the role of “The Hunter.”
Black and Glover Stake Their Claims
According to Screen Rant, during a recent interview, Black was asked what role would interest him if there were a possibility of a Duck Hunt adaptation. His response was enthusiastic:
“I can go hunting ducks.”
Given his proven track record, few would doubt his ability to bring the role to life with aplomb. Interestingly, Black wasn’t the only one to express interest in the potential project. Glover also threw his hat into the ring. But which character would he play? That’s the intriguing part. As Screen Rant reports,
“Glover, on the other hand, said that he’d play the game’s mischievous and universally disliked unnamed dog.”
What’s Next for Black?
One certainty about Hollywood is that when niche content gains momentum, a wave of similar projects often follows. A Duck Hunt adaptation isn’t far-fetched at all—and it’s certainly worth keeping an eye on. There’s no telling what Jack Black will tackle next. As for video game adaptations, it would be fascinating to hear what his fans would like to see him take on in the future.
