FITCHBURG — With new online access to historical family records, increasing numbers of hobbyists are searching to locate and record their ancestors’ history.
Genealogy experts Bonnie Bohnet and Carol Bosworth, of the Gardner-based Central Massachusetts Genealogical Society, are excited to welcome the community to a free Introductory Genealogy Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 11, at the Fitchburg Historical Society, in the historic Phoenix Building at 781 Main St.
Designed as a hands-on experience, the workshop welcomes anyone interested in learning more about researching their family’s history.
Attendees are requested to bring some questions and names from their own family tree; and Bohnet and Bosworth will help you find some answers as part of the learning experience.
Participants should bring a laptop computer or a smartphone to explore on-line genealogy resources during the workshop. Those without a device are encouraged to contact the Fitchburg Historical Society in advance to inquire about availability.
Susan Navarre, executive director of the Fitchburg Historical Society, says this workshop is a simple, easy-to-follow introduction to discovering your family history.
“Tracing your ancestors is a lot of fun,” said Navarre. “Sure, there may be some surprises along your journey, but Carol and Bonnie know how to help you solve the tricky parts and go even further back into your family history — no matter the country.”
Because this free program will offer individualized assistance, space is limited. Advance registration is required by calling 978-345-1157, e-mailing [email protected] or visiting the Eventbrite website at: https://tinyurl.com/3ppv63xz. A follow-up workshop is planned for June at the Fitchburg Historical Society.
