Despite several crashes, Tiger Woods won’t hire a driver due to privacy concerns, an “exclusive source” tells People.
The 50-year-old golfer was arrested on a DUI charge Friday following a rollover crash involving a work vehicle authorities said Woods was attempting to pass near his Florida home. Authorities allegedly suspect he was under the influence of medication. He wasn’t hurt.
Woods was seriously injured in a 2021 crash that happened while he was behind the wheel in Southern California. He pleaded guilty to reckless driving and insisted alcohol wasn’t a factor in that case.
Woods was also injured in a 2009 wreck outside his Florida home. Cops said the golfers former wife smashed out the back window of his SUV so he could exit the vehicle.
However, Woods “doesn’t want anyone to watch over him or know what he is doing,” according to People’s “exclusive source.” He believes he’s fine serving as his own chauffeur.
That insider said the five-time Masters champion isn’t a “social butterfly” and “despises public scrutiny.”
Woods’ private life became a very public matter in 2009 when reports of an extramarital affair preceded his 2010 divorce from Swedish model Elin Nordegren. He would later be linked to roughly a dozen alleged mistresses.
Woods is now dating Vanessa Trump, who was President Trump’s daughter-in-law until 2018. He’s the father of an 18-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son.
There was buzz that Woods might try and compete in the Masters tournament again next month. Though according to Golfweek, he indicated last week, before the car crash, that was unlikely.
“This body just doesn’t recover like it did when I was 24 or 25,” Woods said.
He planned to attend the tournament as a spectator if he can’t be a participant.
“I’m going to be there either way,” he claimed.
