45 arrested, 23 stolen vehicles recovered in Putnam police round up

CARMEL – It was a long and busy weekend for members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department working in coordination with the New York State Police and the Westchester/Putnam Real-Time Crime Center.

Working around the clock, police conducted a three-day targeted enforcement operation aimed at identifying and apprehending individuals involved in auto theft, firearms trafficking, narcotics distribution, and other criminal activity through coordinated traffic enforcement, surveillance, and real-time intelligence sharing.

On Monday, Sheriff Brian Hess identified those taken into custody including 

Anthony Luca, 47, of Patterson on charges of a controlled substance. He was turned over to Carmel Police on an active assault warrant.

Kristen Walsh, 41, Carmel was charged with two felony counts of a criminal possession of controlled substance while Rayquan Cumberbatch, 39, Cortlandt Manor was arrested for a criminal possession of a forged instrument—phony New York State license plates.

Dielston Garcia De Matos Stefanis, 33, of West Hartford, Conn. was arrested on a charge of criminal possession of a forged instrument while Jeffrey Gottsfeld, 50, of Carmel was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Taylor Piguave Poveda, 30, of Prospect, Conn. was arrested for criminal possession of stolen property and aggravated unlicensed operation.

Raymundo Lopez, 40, New York City faces charges of false impersonation; while Gabriel Young, 36, of Yonkers and Fabian Coke, 34, of the Bronx, were both charged with criminal possession of counterfeit U.S. currency when $10,000 worth of phony money was allegedly found in their possession. Both men were remanded to the Putnam County Jail due to prior felony convictions.

Francisco Salgado, 55, of Dingmans Ferry, Pa., was charged with larceny and was taken into custody after reportedly stealing power tools from a business and fleeing in a vehicle after being confronted by store loss prevention personnel.

Sheriff Hess said the three-day operation resulted in 849 traffic stops; 273 tickets being issued; 31 vehicles impounded; 45 arrests; one seized firearm; more than three kilograms of narcotics seized, and 23 vehicles recovered with an estimated value of more than $800,000.
