ROCK HILL – Evergreen Meadow Services, which provides treatment for adolescent girls facing behavior, mental health and trauma-related challenges, is looking to develop its first facility – the Grove at Evergreen Meadow – in Rock Hill, and the Sullivan County Legislature is supporting the effort.
Lawmakers have approved a resolution urging the federal government to provide funding for the project, that would serve 250 young people per year.
Legislature Health and Human Services Committee Chairwoman Catherine Scott said the services Evergreen provides now would be expanded significantly.
“Adolescence is a very difficult time. We live in a society that puts a lot of pressure on young girls. There is aesthetic pressure, a lot of different pressures. This is a program that has a lot of value to it, but it is going to cost quite a bit to establish,” she said.
Scott said that, at present, the program operates in a few county school districts with government funding.
