Brewster school kids raise over $20K for American Heart Association

BREWSTER – Brewster school children have heart!

Students at the John F. Kennedy Elementary School have raised $21,450 for the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge—the highest amount in the school’s history.

Superintendent of Schools Michelle Gosh commended the entire student body. “Throughout the challenge, our boys and girls have shown dedication, not only by fundraising to help others but also by taking the time to learn how to care for their own heart health.”

To celebrate the record-breaking success, JFK held its annual “Pie the Coach” event. The top three fundraisers from each grade level had the honor of ‘pieing’ the school’s physical education coaches.

Children gathered outside the school to watch the ritual. At the front of the crowd holding whip cream filled pie tins were Olivia Pastrano, Aaron Haynes, Jackson Bourquin, Giavanna Dioguardi, Holden Jackson, Ophelia Drivas, Aubrey Schmitz, Ryder Bourquin, and Leo Tabisel–the top fundraisers for each grade.

American Heart Association representative Cara Donohoe thanked the student body. “Thank you all from the bottom of my heart,” she said.

Physical education teacher Jennifer Purcell was also grateful telling the children, “Thank you all for your continued support in making this year’s challenge such a resounding success.”
