“Abolish the Police”—While Standing Behind Them? The Irony Americans Can’t Ignore

There are moments when reality speaks louder than any slogan—and this is one of them.

At recent “No Kings” protests, demonstrators were heard chanting “abolish the police” while being escorted, protected, and in many cases surrounded by the very officers they say shouldn’t exist.

Let that sink in.

Because you can’t make this up.

On one hand, there are calls to dismantle law enforcement—to remove the very structure that keeps order in cities across this country. On the other hand, those same protesters are relying on that protection to march safely, to gather without chaos, and to ensure that things don’t spiral out of control.

That’s not just contradiction—that’s reality colliding with rhetoric.

And Americans are noticing.

Because when push comes to shove, when crowds gather and tensions rise, who shows up? Who stands between order and disorder? Who makes sure protests don’t turn into something far worse?

It’s the police.

This isn’t about politics—it’s about practicality. You can chant slogans all day long, but when it’s time to ensure safety, those same institutions suddenly become necessary again. And that’s the disconnect that more and more people are seeing clearly.

Because the truth is simple: law enforcement exists for a reason.

Are there issues that need addressing? Of course. Are there conversations to be had about reform? Absolutely. But abolishing the very system that maintains public safety while actively relying on it—that’s a contradiction that doesn’t hold up.

It raises a bigger question: is this about solutions… or just slogans?

Because solutions require responsibility. They require understanding how systems work, what happens when they’re removed, and what replaces them. And right now, many Americans aren’t hearing those answers—they’re hearing chants that fall apart the moment reality steps in.

Bottom line: You can’t call for the end of policing while standing behind police protection. At some point, rhetoric has to meet reality—and when it does, the contradictions become impossible to ignore.
