FBI Review Finds No Evidence Epstein Operated Sex-Trafficking Network for Powerful Clients

A newly disclosed investigative summary says federal agents found extensive abuse by Epstein himself but no proof he trafficked women to other men.

Federal investigators concluded that Jeffrey Epstein did not operate a sex-trafficking ring for powerful individuals, according to a report summarizing the FBI’s review of evidence gathered before and after the financier’s death in federal custody.

The finding, reported by the Associated Press, is based on an examination of Epstein’s bank records, emails, photographs, videos, and other materials documenting years of sexual abuse involving underage girls. While the evidence confirmed that Epstein abused minors and paid numerous women, investigators said they did not uncover proof that he was trafficking women to other men.

According to the report, agents reviewed images and videos seized from Epstein’s residences in New York, Florida, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Some of the materials included nude images of females, some of whom appeared to be minors, as well as commercial child sexual abuse material Epstein had obtained online. However, prosecutors said none of the photos or videos showed Epstein’s victims being sexually abused by other men or depicted males with the nude females.

Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey, who helped oversee aspects of the investigation, wrote in an email to FBI officials last year that no evidence implicated anyone beyond Epstein and his longtime associate, Ghislaine Maxwell. “Had the evidence existed, the government would have pursued any leads they generated,” Comey wrote, adding that investigators “did not, however, locate any such videos.”

Epstein died in a New York City detention center in 2019 while awaiting federal charges related to the sex trafficking of minors in Florida and New York. His death was ruled a suicide. Maxwell was convicted in 2021 of child sex trafficking and related offenses tied to her role in facilitating Epstein’s abuse and is serving a 20-year prison sentence.

Prosecutors also examined Epstein’s financial records, which showed payments to more than 25 women who appeared to be models. Investigators said those records did not demonstrate that Epstein was prostituting women to other men or operating a broader trafficking enterprise on behalf of influential clients.

The conclusions are likely to fuel continued debate and scrutiny surrounding Epstein’s crimes, the scope of his network, and lingering public questions about whether others were involved beyond those already prosecuted.
