Former Greenwood Lake Deputy Mayor dies after cancer battle

GREENWOOD LAKE – Former Greenwood Lake Deputy Mayor Kelli Kelm passed away over the weekend after a battle with cancer.

Kelm announced last January in a Facebook video that she was battling Stage 3 ovarian cancer and would not run for re-election. In the video, Kelm said that she previously beat the disease. She was 57.

“I am deeply saddened by Kelli’s passing,” said Town of Warwick Supervisor Jesse Dwyer. Kelm served as Dwyer’s Deputy Mayor for 10 years.

“Kelli was a dedicated public servant who always put the village first, sacrificing so much to make our community a better place,” Dwyer added. “Her unwavering commitment and compassion touched the lives of so many. My heart goes out to her family during this difficult time, and I will forever cherish the support and friendship she gave me over the years, and our Village will be a better place because of the work done by Deputy Mayor Kelli Kelm.”

Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C-Deerpark) called Kelm “a beautiful soul.”

“Kelli was always friendly and ready to help anyone,” Brabenec said. “She was also a very hard-working community leader, always looking out for the residents of Greenwood Lake. She will be greatly missed, and my thoughts are with her entire family.”

Kelm is survived by her husband, Eric, children, Samantha and Jake.
