PRINCETON — Families and nature lovers are invited to experience the quiet beauty of winter after dark during Starlight & S’mores, a special evening program to be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary, 113 Goodnow Road.
The after-hours event offers visitors a chance to explore the sanctuary under the night sky as daylight fades and winter wildlife becomes active.
Led by Mass Audubon staff and volunteers, the program encourages participants to slow down, observe their surroundings and experience the sights and sounds of nature at night.
Activities include a guided winter walk to listen for nocturnal animals such as barred owls, stargazing along the way, and opportunities to observe the night sky under a waxing crescent moon. Guests can also warm up by a campfire while making s’mores and take part in a nature-themed craft designed for all ages.
“Starlight & S’mores is open to adults and families with children of all ages and is designed to celebrate outdoor exploration during the winter season,” said Jennifer Dziejma, Regional Marketing Associate, Central/West, Mass Audubon. “This program is both educational and recreational, offering a relaxed introduction to nighttime ecology in a family-friendly setting.”
Registration is required, and participants are asked to select either a 5 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. arrival time when signing up to help manage group sizes. Attendees are encouraged to dress warmly and wear layers suitable for outdoor conditions.
